This is the first time THA has opened its waitlist to all household sizes since 2015.
TACOMA, WA – February 23, 2023 – The Tacoma Housing Authority (THA) has announced that it will open its low-income housing waitlist for eligible households on Monday, April 3rd, through Monday, April 17th. This will be the first time THA has opened the waitlist to all household sizes since 2015. Households that meet the income eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. If selected for the waitlist, eligible households may receive an offer to lease a unit at a THA-owned property or receive a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV). THA aims to serve eligible households within two years, but the wait time may be longer.
“We are excited to reopen our waitlist and bring much-needed housing help to new and eligible households of all sizes,” said Executive Director April Black. “We know the need is dire, and many low-income households have waited patiently for their chance to be added to the waitlist. This opening will add around 1800 households, who should expect to receive housing assistance within the next two years.”
Unlike the waitlist opening in 2021, in which only larger households were permitted to apply, all household sizes that meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply for this opening. Applicants will have the option of applying online at www.tacomahousing.org/waitlist; in person at THA’s main office at 902 S L Street, the Salishan Family Investment Center at 1724 E 44th Street, or the Bay Terrace apartments at 2550 S G Street; or via phone by calling (253) 448-2738, Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Households must apply between 9 AM Monday, April 3rd and 4 PM Monday, April 17th, 2023, to be considered for the waitlist.
For those interested in applying for the waitlist, THA has created a helpful FAQ page, www.tacomahousing.org/waitlistfaq. For additional information or assistance navigating the application process, applicants are encouraged to email waitlist@tacomahousing.org.
