What is Affordable Housing Week?

Every May, the Tacoma-Pierce County Affordable Housing Consortium hosts Affordable Housing Week—a community-wide initiative dedicated to raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and advancing real solutions to Pierce County’s housing challenges.

Affordable Housing Week will take place May 5–9, 2025, and we invite everyone to attend!

Why It Matters

Pierce County, like many regions, is facing a housing crisis that affects individuals and families across income levels. From rising rents to limited housing supply, the pressures are real—and they demand action. Affordable Housing Week was created to shine a light on these issues while celebrating the people, policies, and projects working to make housing more affordable, accessible, and equitable.

This year’s theme centers on the housing continuum—the full range of housing types that support people at different stages of life and income. From emergency shelter to supportive housing, rental units, and ultimately homeownership, the housing continuum reflects how individuals and families move through housing as their needs and circumstances evolve. Affordable Housing Week 2025 invites us to consider what it takes to ensure stability at every point on that continuum—and how we can work together to remove barriers along the way.

What Happens During the Week?

This year’s Affordable Housing Week features educational events, housing tours, virtual panel discussions, community storytelling, and advocacy opportunities. These events bring together nonprofit leaders, housing developers, elected officials, service providers, and residents to discuss the full continuum of housing, from emergency shelter to permanent homeownership.

Key events for 2025 include:

  • A networking reception at West of the Waterway on May 8th, from 6PM - 8:30PM

  • Virtual panels on housing across the continuum (Emergency Housing, Permanent Support Housing, Affordable Housing, and beyond)

  • Community-led events hosted by our members and partners (including a Women Build Night Market)

  • Opportunities to engage with policy and advocacy efforts that shape housing in our region

How to Get Involved

There are several ways to participate:
