AHC’s 2025 Legislative Agenda: Advancing Affordable Housing Solutions

Washington State Capitol in Olympia, WA

The Affordable Housing Consortium (AHC) is proud to announce the adoption of our 2025 Legislative Agenda. This plan reflects our commitment to tackling the housing challenges impacting Pierce County and Washington State. Together with our members, we are working to expand access to affordable housing and create lasting solutions for our community.

Key Focus Areas

The 2025 Legislative Agenda is centered on practical, impactful solutions to ensure housing stability and equity:

  1. Investing in Housing Development

Funding is crucial to build and preserve affordable housing. AHC is advocating for increased investments to create new units and meet the urgent need for housing across Pierce County and the state.

  2. Sustaining Affordable Housing Services

Operating funding is essential to keep affordable housing developments running smoothly. This includes property maintenance, management, and services that support residents, especially those in vulnerable situations.

  3. Encouraging Development Through Tax Incentives

Tax incentives, like targeted sales tax relief, can lower costs for affordable housing developers. These tools make projects more feasible, attract private investment, and help increase the housing supply.

  4. Improving Housing Infrastructure

Infrastructure investments in utilities, transportation, and community facilities make neighborhoods functional, connected, and livable. These improvements strengthen affordable housing developments and enhance community access to essential services.

  5. Reducing Insurance Costs

Rising insurance costs place financial strain on housing providers. AHC supports solutions to stabilize or reduce these costs so funds can be reinvested into maintaining and expanding affordable housing.

  6. Supporting Research and Innovation

AHC is advocating for the creation of a Washington State Center for Housing Research. This center would provide critical data and analysis to guide policy decisions, foster innovation, and support equitable housing development.
