House Puts NHTF in Jobs Bill; Senate Still Needs to Act
We Are Getting Closer to Success

The House of Representatives is expected to take up the Jobs for Main Street Act, 2010 (H.R. 2847) today, a $75 billion bill that includes $1 billion for the National Housing Trust Fund and $65 million for project-based vouchers to be distributed along with NHTF dollars. The Jobs for Main Street Act would be paid for with unused TARP funds. Please make sure your Representative knows that you want him or her to support this bill. (The DOD appropriations bill, which had been a potential NHTF vehicle, is moving separately).

The state-of-play in the Senate is very fluid and changes hourly. The Senate still has to pass several "must pass" items before the end of the year, but is more likely to consider its version of a "Jobs" bill after the New Year. It is critical that your Senators know that you expect them to secure funding for the NHTF as soon as possible.

Please call your Representative NOW and ask him or her to support the Jobs for Main Street bill including NHTF funding.

Please call both of your Senators NOW and ask them to support NHTF funding in any and all bills to which it is attached. Make sure your Senators know you are counting on them to get this done NOW.

To help make your case, NLIHC has estimates of how much your state will receive from an initial $1 billion capitalization and how many construction and permanent jobs will be created. These estimates are available at: http://www.nlihc.org/doc/NHTF-State-Estimates.pdf
